TITLE: Discipleship Intern for New Adults

TIMELINE: June 3, 2024 - April 3, 2025 (12-15 hours per week)

LOCATION: South Fork, Colorado

ORGANIZATION/POSITION OVERVIEW

The Gap at Sawmill Meadow is a 9 month, faith-based, non-profit, Gap program for new adults ages 18-23 located in South Fork, Colorado. The mission of The Gap is to cultivate wholeness in new adults so they launch thriving in purpose and responsibility and is grounded in the words of Jesus to love the Lord and to love our neighbors as ourself. This position is geared toward an applicant who is interested in discipling new adults (18-23 years old) with an emphasis on leading and loving (discipling) new adults toward Jesus. The chosen applicant will be exposed to multiple facets of nonprofit business and business development within a parachurch ministry.

The Discipleship Intern will partner with the paid, onsite host couple, to work directly with the attendees of The Gap to fulfill this mission by leading and facilitating weekly small group discussions and engaging in direct one on one mentoring with each attendee. Specifically, theological leadership and support will be required of the Discipleship Intern in the areas of Identity and Calling, Living in Community, Prayer, Silence and Solitude, Vocation as Ministry, Values and Mission, Your Body as a Temple, and Living Simply. Mentoring of attendees will be focused in these areas as they apply these principles to their daily lives and decisions. The Discipleship Intern will also work closely with the Executive Director of the nonprofit to assist with the communication of the mission to potential referral streams. They will also work directly with the volunteer mentors coordinating and executing the overall mentorship plan between the attendees and their mentors. Additional opportunities exist to establish and lead programming for the community in accordance with the mission.

JOB/INTERN TITLE: Discipleship Intern

INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES AND LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Prepare, lead and facilitate 2 small group sessions per week with the host couple as resourced 

  • Mentor assigned Gap attendees each week focusing on growth toward Jesus

  • Participate in all Seminar Saturday offerings and assist guest lecturers as requested by Host Couple or Executive Director

  • Coordinate and continue to develop the remote mentoring program

  • Develop a mentor engagement plan with remote mentors including at least twice monthly connection

  • Develop a community outreach program consistent with the mission and lead with the Executive Director and Host Couple

  • Provide a quarterly report for the Board of Directors of The Gap at Sawmill Meadow

  • Co-Host 3 webinars for parents or guardians with Host Couple/Exec. Director

  • Attend family dinner in the lodge with the gappers/host couple 4 times per week

  • Assume the role of host for approved time off for the host couple

  • Be an ambassador for Jesus and The Gap to the local community

  • Contribute to the culture of becoming an apprentice to Jesus

  • Present to our pastoral advisors at the conclusion of the experience

INTERNSHIP BENEFITS

  • In addition to the assigned mentor, this position will be exposed to pastoral leaders from a variety of denominations and backgrounds who each are participating in the mission to love God and love others as ourselves. Additional networking opportunities exist by knowing and assisting industry leaders who subscribe to a Business as Ministry philosophy. 

  • Intern will be invited to all Adventure offerings at no cost to the intern - worth ~$2000

  • Intern will be provided housing and all utilities including internet as well as 4 dinners per week and access to breakfast items in the main lodge daily.

  • Additional opportunities for income exist with available jobs in the community  and/or self support fundraising

  • One week off aroundThanksgiving and around Christmas

INTERNSHIP QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Completed undergraduate degree

  • Emotionally mature

  • Enrolled in a Master’s level Christian Leadership or Christian Counseling degree requiring internship for graduation requirements

  • Able to articulate specificity around personal, spiritual growth

  • Express desire to lead others in their own spiritual growth

  • Interested in parachurch or nonprofit ministry
